Plymouth Parade of Lights 2023

To align with free flow out of Sutton Harbour we are delaying the start to 18:15

The general public will be able to view the spectacle from JennyCliffe Bay and along the Hoe from around 6pm.

Details of timings and the course will be confirmed by email nearer the time but the current plans are to hold the event on Sunday 17th December. 

All boats and crew welcome to participate and to join us for the rally likely to be held between 6 pm and 7pm with a warm welcome and refreshment back at the RPCYC clubhouse at 25 The Parade, Barbican Plymouth, PL1 2JN.

Registered vessels to muster at JennyCliffe bay at 6pm ready to line up to depart on a circular route lead by the RNLI ILB.

The general public will be able to view the spectacle from JennyCliffe Bay and along the Hoe from around 6pm.

Event subject to weather and final approval from Harbour Master as per last years event.

Skippers briefing planned for 18:00 on 15th December at RPCYC Club House or Zoom , details to be communicated nearer the time.

Rules :

  • The Skipper must be competent and vessels must carry sufficient crew.
  • The boat must be insured to a minimum of third party.
  • All boats must clearly display the correct navigation lights throughout the parade.
  • All boats must be rigged with decorative LED lights which are only to be switched on when instructed by the event control on VHF CH8, this is in order to create the maximum spectacle!!
  • Skippers must complete any risk assessments which they deem to be necessary.
  • Boats will muster in Jennycliff bay from 16:30 approx. and be ready to leave at around 17:00 instructions will be on VHF CH8.
  • Skippers must maintain a listening watch on VHF CH8 and14 for the duration of the event
  • Safety boats will maintain a listening watch on VHF channels 8, 14 and 16 at all times. 
  • Boats will be called to join the parade on VHF CH8
  • All boats must keep to the designated course unless in danger – check in on https://rpcyc.co.uk/festival-of-boats-parade-2023/ for route details.
  • All boats must follow each other in single file with no overtaking and maintain a distance from the vessel in front.
  • All boats to not exceed a speed of between 4-5 knots with the lead boat setting the speed.
  • If you encounter any mechanical or safety issues contact the safety boat on VHF CH8.
  • Lastly have fun and enjoy the event.
  • By signing/returning completed form, I (The Skipper),agree that I comply with the rules and will comply and take instruction from the safety boats and any other port authority.
